In 2003, Vincen Beekman (born in 1973) amassed an impressive collection of colour images whose goal was to challenge the idea of “subject”, a precious idea to photojournalism. He trawled highway rest areas, psychiatric centres, squats, all of this with family, alone, or on commission. He is fascinated by photo albums, urban garbage and spontaneous organisation of space, of the banal or of nothingness. In Belgium his work is concerned primary with still life, an approach to documentary research that breaks with his black and white sequences produced in India, Brazil, Congo, Thailand, and Finland. Vincen Beekman and joined the BlowUp collective in 2002. He is also working for the Recylcart association. (www.recyclart.be) Permanent installation : Brussels metro station Anneesens, 2005.
