Campo Santo. Wednesday. The evening opens with the award ceremony of the eleventh CARE International Award for Humanitarian Reportage, which also coincides with the 60th anniversary of the association. The award went to young British photographer Hazel Thompson for her work on child prisoners in the Philippines. She also receives the 60th anniversary CARE international Award. Wednesday evening’s projections contain less subjects, with much greater pertinence. As the week goes on, the quality of the screenings keeps getting better! Special attention goes to the splendid black and white reportage of Per-Anders Pettersson (Getty Images) on cobalt mines in Congo. Positive feedback from the public on “Food”, a series made by Peter Menzel (Cosmos), where family portraits are taken alongside their whole week’s provision of food. The result was astonishing! Two particular moving stories, one on leprosy in Brazil (photographed by Anderson Schneider), another on AIDS in Ukraine (photographed by Brent Sitrton), were followed by a series of photographic documents on the Spanish civil war (1936-1939), brilliantly compiled by Sophie Malexis and Michel Lefebvre.
